Cryotherapy

removal of surface skin lesions

What is Cryotherapy?

The term ‘Cryotherapy’ means ‘treatment using low temperature. It refers to the removal of surface skin lesions by freezing them. Here at The Aesthetics Skin and Laser Clinic we use a CryoPen.

What conditions can be treated using Cryotherapy?

Many abnormal, non cancerous (benign) lesions can be treated with Cryotherapy. It is most commonly used to treat sun-damaged areas of skin found on sun exposed parts of the body. It is also used to treat viral warts and other benign lesions such as skin tags, moles, redness and spider veins.

What does Cryotherapy procedure involve?

Cryotherapy is carried out by Sarah, a qualified nurse prescriber with over 20 years of experience. It is carried out in the relaxing, luxury Aesthetics Skin and Laser Clinic. Liquid Nitrogen is applied to the skin using a Cryopen. It delivers a precise controlled amount at very low temperatures (-90 degrees Celsius). It causes an instantaneous freeze which destroys the unwanted cells on contact.

What to expect after a Cyrotherapy session?

Once treated with Cryotherapy, the affected area will start to crust over within days before gradually flaking off or healing naturally during the course of a few weeks. You can expect some swelling and redness directly after treatment but this only lasts a couple of days.
